Hey, this is Charles Miller. If you’re reading this, you probably found me sometime in the last decade or so. I talk about writing, personal branding, social media, and selling offers (mostly services). I’m the CEO of and a partner in Copyblogger. The photo you’re seeing next to this email/article might be new to you, but it’s the same old me.
The housekeeping is that I’ve switched from Kit (ConvertKit) to Substack because:
I don’t need all the features Kit offers. For the last few months, I’ve been simplifying everything I do with my business. That means no tagging, no long introduction email series, and nothing I sell besides Copyblogger Academy.
Substack has a community and social media aspect that’s great for finding new people. X and LinkedIn are both going great, but I’m interested in getting exposure to a new kind of reader on a new platform.
So here we are. But all that is boring. I’d rather give you something to think about than just telling you what I’m up to. Here’s what coming to mind right now:
You never totally figure anything out.
I’ve been writing online for 7 years now. That’s led to 400,000 followers, 100+ clients, 5,000+ customers, and a whole bunch of result driven for them.
But I’m still changing software tools, struggling to figure out how to use this one, and not sure it’s even the right move. I know there will be more frustrations coming too.
In the the past 5 months, I’ve also had:
One of the worst profit months I’ve had in years (recent months have been really good, but there was one with a large dip that I wasn’t expecting).
Dozens of posts that flopped, hundreds of people who ignored my DMs, thousands that ignored my emails, and even a few telling me off.
If you’re struggling with whatever you’re building, just know that this is a constant. It’ll probably get better. You’ll get smarter. You’ll start making fewer mistakes. Your intuition will improve. Your profits will grow. You might win bigger than you ever thought you could. But there will still be times where you’re lost and losing.
And that’s okay.
Keep faith and keep going.
Next time we talk, I’ll be back to sending useful strategies and mindsets. Thanks for bearing with me on this one and the latest systems change. Talk soon.
Welcome.
